UJM Hot Dog Party
Uncle Jon's Music in Westmont, IL is a local family-owned music shop. When a confused stranger left a mysterious message about hot dogs on the store answering machine after hours, a tradition was born...the Uncle Jon's Music Hot Dog Party. I helped to promote the event through mailings, signage, and commemorative t-shirts and buttons. I also made my first foray into guerilla marketing as my alter-ego, Hot Dog Guy.
All Things Lucid
All Things Lucid's first full-length album is titled Suburbs on the Moon. For their gig at Piece, I decided to riff on that concept in a very literal sense.
For their show at Schuba's, I decided to highlight the city of Chicago since life in the big city is a recurring theme in their music. I used my own photography in the poster's design and made sure to include the iconic neon Schlitz sign outside the venue.
The McCulture Conspiracy
This was a research-intensive study of American icons and values. It began by drawing parallels between McDonald's, the tooth fairy, and graffiti, but the project quickly branched out to tackle issues both local and global, current and historical, and mundane and extraordinary. The various pieces of the project took on the tone of paranoid conspiracy theorist as I uncovered more uncanny connections.
Front: A Zine
Front is an artistic outlet for my passion of storytelling. Mixing my own original photography with found photography, it attempts to tell a story through images and their various connections and connotations. This first issue expanded upon the ideas explored in The McCulture Conspiracy. I am currently working on a second issue.
Riverside Publishing
I previously worked as a full-time graphic designer at Riverside Publishing, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. I worked on just about every sort of design project you could imagine. Print and web ads, brochures, logos, exhibit booth graphics, landing pages, catalogs, email blasts—you name it, I did it.
UJM Promos
Here are various promotional items I've worked on for Uncle Jon's Music. Making music fun and accessible to people of all ages is a consistent goal for all of the work I do for UJM.
Flat Cats
The Flat Cats are a swinging jazz and blues band from Chicago. For their gigs at the Fulton Lounge, they were looking for something a little different from their usual red, white, and black fliers. I decided to design something reminiscent of the album covers from the jazz record label Blue Note.
